“The concept of working with nature, extracting colour from plants, leaves, and flowers, and being inspired by it was truly fascinating. You can’t control nature and that’s the beauty of natural dyes.” Juhi - co-founder of the natural plant dye studio Akané.

This elegant style piece is the collective work of numerous women behind every weave, stitch and seam. From the indigenous silk weavers who have been handweaving silk for generations to the the natural dyes of the Akané sisters and the tailoring of the Kumbaya community with love and precision.

“Even though we do the exact dye with the exact same recipe and use the measurements that we worked with on the sample… the colours still might turn out to be a little different. Pale yellows end up a little brighter than what we had died earlier. This happens with each batch of flowers.

“We have noticed this with the green colour, specifically the red marigold flower which gives our green dye. The greens were so different. It was because of getting different batches of flowers at different times. When you embrace these differences people might think of it as a mistake or as failure. Instead, we like to embrace them because it is what makes each dress unique. And each person is going to end up with a dress unique to them. MATERIALS AND CARE

Zazi items are handmade with carefully selected natural materials without the use of synthetic chemicals. To cherish your handcrafted Zazi dress for a longer time, please handle it with care.

This handwoven mulberry silk fabric feels smooth and silky on the skin and is a delicate fabric- so we kindly remind you to handle it with care.
Due to the hand dyed nature of the fabric, there might be small color variations making each piece one of a kind.
Protect from heavy rain or heat. Should it become wet, we advise to air dry.
Washing by hand and cold is advised to maintain quality of thread and colour.

When it comes to running a small company with purpose, there are so many costs that are both unseen and seen. From renting our Zazi world in the heart of Amsterdam to the worldwide creatives we work with every day. From the most talented pattern makers, photographers and muses to the endless calls to perfection every co-creation up to the smallest seam. From our community work of tracking your order to packing them with love, and a little note before it arrives with you.

Our co-creations are a process of months of calls and love letters to our partners to get to know them and their stories. Two teams of women coming together from far corners of the world to create products made with the intentionality to truly connect you to the stories interwoven in them. If there is money left by the end of this process, it is directly invested into a new community so we can slowly grow this company step by step.

SHIPPING & RETURNS

ZAZI items are shipped worldwide with carefully selected packaging and partners with the planet in mind. Each piece is wrapped in an exclusive reusable bag handmade from upcycled Saree and our packaging is made from recycled materials. As express shipping is more harmful on our planet than standard, we aim to use standard shipping where possible.

Shipping Europe: free. Normal delivery in 1-3 working days.
Shipping outside Europe: €19,95. Normal delivery within 3-5 working days. Please note, all custom duties and/or import taxes that may apply for shipping outside the Eu is the responsibility of our international customer.

Your pre-order, made to order and custom items will be shipped on the estimated date as shared on the product description. Custom items are exchanged only.
