KUMBAYA
Kumbaya, a beacon of empowerment for marginalized groups, focuses on uplifting impoverished women and individuals with disabilities through the art of stitching. Specializing in apparel, patchwork home linens, and accessories, Kumbaya operates from the heart of Bagli Tehsil in the tribal drylands of Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh, for nearly three decades.
Situated in an area where manual labor in agriculture often leads to marginalization and neglect, Kumbaya extends its support to individuals with disabilities, ensuring their inclusion and dignity. With a steadfast commitment to women's economic empowerment, Kumbaya endeavors to catalyze positive transformations in their lives through innovative design.
Through rigorous skill development initiatives, Kumbaya has empowered over 2500 women across 80 villages, many of whom had no prior experience in stitching. Equipped with this newfound skill, these women now generate income from the comfort of their homes, serving as tailors in local markets.
As a proud member of Samaj Pragati Sahayog (SPS), one of India’s foremost grassroots organizations dedicated to water, livelihood security, and financial inclusion, Kumbaya collaborates on various initiatives. SPS's holistic approach encompasses watershed development, sustainable agriculture, commodity aggregation, livestock management, healthcare, education, research, and community media in rural Madhya Pradesh.
In collaboration with Kumbaya, ZAZI pieces bear witness to the stitching expertise and inspiring stories of the women affiliated with this organization, amplifying their voices and contributions.
